Learning to walk on a collar and leash is the basis of all further training for every puppy. Until the puppy has learned to accept the collar and leash, it will be impossible to perform any additional training.br /
br /
The first step toward getting the puppy to accept the collar and leash is to find a collar that fits the dog properly. It is important that the collar be neither too light or too heavy, neither too thin nor too thick. A collar that is too light for the dog can be easily broken, while a collar that is too heavy may be uncomfortable for the puppy to wear. It is also important that the width of the color be appropriate for the size of the dog.br /
br /
Determining the proper length of the collar is relatively easy. Simply wrap a tape measure or a string lightly around the dog’s neck to get an accurate measurement. It is important that the tape measure not be tight, just slightly snug. br /
br /
Most collars are sized in two inch increments, so you may have to round up to get a properly sized collar. For instance, if the dog has a 13” neck, you would buy a 14” collar, and so on.br /
br /
After you have purchased the perfect collar, the next step is to put it on the dog and allow him to wear it around the house. Do not be dismayed if the dog whines, paws at the collar or otherwise tries to remove it. This is normal, and the dog should not be punished for it. It is best to simply ignore the dog and allow him to work out his own issues with the collar.br /
br /
The dog should be allowed to wear the collar 24 hours a day for a number of days to get used to the feel of the collar on his neck. After the dog is accepting the collar well, it is time to start introducing the leash. A lightweight leash works best for this process. Simply attach the leash to the dog’s collar and allow him to walk around the house with it. The dog should of course be supervised during this process in order to make sure he does not get the leash caught on anything. Getting the leash caught or snagged could frighten the dog and create a leash phobia that will be hard to overcome.br /
br /
In the beginning, the leash should only be attached for a few minutes at a time. It is important to attach the leash at happy times, such as playtime, meal time, etc. It is important for the dog to associate the leash with happy things. When the leash is not attached to the dog, it is a good idea to keep it near the dog’s food and water bowls. The dog should be encouraged to investigate the leash, and to discover that it is not something to fear.br /
br /
After the dog is used to walking around with the leash attached, take the end of the leash in your hand and just hold it. Allow the dog to walk around. If the dog bumps into the end of the leash, just allow the dog to react and move as he desires. The goal of this exercise is to simply allow the dog to get used to the feel of the collar and the leash.br /
br /
It is important to allow the puppy plenty of time to get used to wearing the collar and leash before ever attempting to lead the puppy. It is best to perform this exercise in the home or other environment where the puppy feels safe and secure. After the puppy is comfortable and content walking on the leash in the home, it can slowly be taken outside. It is best to make these outside trips very short at the beginning, and to lengthen them slowly over time. Some puppies take to the collar and leash immediately, while others may require some additional time. br /

Dog training-possessiveness with foodbr /
Though sometimes would like to believe otherwise, food is a dogs first priority, so the first step to successful training is to establish yourself as the leader, this can be acheived by showing him that he can only have his food at your discretion and command. Give him his dinner, allow him to eat for a few seconds, then take his bowl away from him. Use an appropriate sound each time you do so, such as leave or stop, and keep the bowl for a few seconds.Provided he didnt show any aggression as you removed the bowl, tell him how good boy, give it back and allow him to continue eating. Repeat this two or three times during each meal for a few days, then once or twice a week for a few weeks.br /
br /
Some dogs are never possessive with their food, but you may find if your dog came from a large litter, the only way he could obtain his share of the food was to threaten his brothers and sisters. Finding this action acheived the desired result (getting more food),he may well try it with you.If you dont sort this out very early on, this possessiveness will transfer to other things, such as bones, toys, furniture and so on, perhaps even to other members of the family.br /
br /
To stop him being aggressive with his food, dont give him possession of it! By this I mean feed him by hand for a couple of weeks. Prepare his food in the bowl as usual, but dont put the bowl on the floor for him. Simply feed him a handful at a time. The bowl of food on the floor almost instinctively makes him want to guard it, so if he is not put in this position of needing to guard, he will not bite!br /
br /
Feeding by hand also helps if your dog is dominant in other areas. It makes him completely reliant on you for the most important thing in his life, his food, and this will reinforce your position of pack leader, as he is only receiving the food from you and not from the bowl. You can also use this period of hand feeding to your benefit by making him perform some minor order from you for some of the food. Get him to sit first before one handful, or to lie down for the next, and so on. Dont make him run around for the food as this could cause digestive upsets.br /
br /
You will find that after a couple weeks of this regime, his general attitude over possessions will change. You can then try giving him his food in a bowl again, and, provided there is no sign of aggression, continue to feed him normally.br /
br /
For dogs that are food possessive, do not give them bones or toys, as they will attempt to guard these in the same way. Once the food possession has been sorted out, you can try introducing a toy, but make sure the dog understands that it is your toy, and he is only allowed to play with it with you, and when you decide the game is to end, you must end up with the toy.br /

You finally have your adorable, cuddly new puppy. You are happy to have him and he is happy to have a family. But wait – its just the beginning. There are 2 behaviors you need to deal with almost immediately – jumping on people and biting.br /
br /
Jumping on peoplebr /
br /
This is a problem that you or others might inadvertently encourage. He is so little and cute, that little tail is wagging and, after all, isnt socialization and getting used to people important? Of course socialization and getting used to people is crucial but allowing him to jump on people isnt the way to do it.Imagine your cute, little puppy as a full grown 80 – 100 pound dog. Will it be so cute when he jumps on people then? No and it will be dangerous if he jumps on children or small adults because he could easily knock them down. br /
br /
The best time to take care of this is, of course, when he is a puppy. When the puppy jumps up on you or someone else, gently place the puppys feet back on the floor. When he remains standing there, be sure to praise him extensively. Give him an alternative to jumping up. Puppies jump up on people to express their enthusiasm, so it is important to redirect this energy in a more socially acceptable direction. Try teaching the puppy to present his paw instead of jumping up. When teaching the puppy to not jump up on people, it is important to be consistent. Consistency is important in any training program, and all members of the family as well as friends must understand that the puppy is not permitted to jump on them – ever.br /
br /
Bitingbr /
br /
Biting is one of those things that every puppy seems to do, and every puppy must be taught not to do. Like many behaviors, such as jumping up on people, biting and nipping can seem cute when the puppy is small, but much less so as he gets older, larger and stronger.br /
br /
Left to their own devices, most puppies learn to control their biting reflex from their mothers and from their littermates. When the puppy becomes overenthusiastic, whether when nursing or playing, the mother dog, or the other puppies, will quickly issue a correction.br /
br /
Unfortunately, this type of natural correction often does not occur, since many puppies are removed from their mothers when they are still quite young. It is therefore up to you to take over this important process.br /
br /
Socializing the puppy with other dogs and puppies is one of the best and most effective ways to teach the puppy the appropriate, and non appropriate way to bite, and to curb the biting response.br /
br /
Many communities and pet stores sponsor puppy playtime and puppy kindergarten classes, and these classes can be great places for puppies to socialize with each other, and with other humans and animals as well. As the puppies play with each other, they will naturally bite and nip each other. When one puppy becomes too rough or bites too hard, the other puppies will quickly respond by correcting him. br /
br /
The best time for this socialization of the puppy to occur is when it is still young. It is vital that every dog be properly socialized, since a poorly socialized dog, or worse, one that is not socialized at all, can become dangerous and even neurotic. Most experts recommend that puppies be socialized before they have reached the age of 12 weeks, or three months.br /
br /
Another reason for socializing the puppy early is that mothers of young children may be understandably reluctant to allow their young children to play with older or larger dogs. Since socializing the dog with other people is just as important as socializing it with other dogs, it is best to do it when the puppy is still young enough to be non threatening to everyone.br /
br /
It is important for the puppy to be exposed to a wide variety of different stimuli during the socialization process. The socialization process should include exposing the puppy to a wide variety of other animals, including other puppies, adult dogs, cats and other domestic animals. In addition, the puppy should be introduced to as wide a cross section of people as possible, including young children, older people, men, women and people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.br /
br /
While socialization is very important to providing the puppy with life lessons and preventing him from biting, it is not the only method of preventing unwanted biting and mouthing. Giving the puppy appropriate things to play with and bite is another good way to control inappropriate biting. Providing a variety of chew toys, ropes and other things the puppy can chew is important to preventing boredom, keeping his teeth polished and keeping him from chewing things he should not.br /
br /
As with any training, it is important to be consistent when teaching the puppy not to bite. Every member of the family, as well as close friends who may visit, should all be told that the puppy is to be discouraged from biting. If one person allows the puppy to chew on them while everyone else does not, the puppy will quickly become confused, and that can make the training process much more difficult than it has to be.br /

Teaching your dog the sit command could be one of the most useful commands you ever teach him. A poorly trained dog is a direct reflection on you the pet owner and how much care about your dog. In fact an untrained dog becomes a nuisance to its owner therefore the dog and owner become unhappy. Whether its a puppy or a fully grown dog you can teach them to sit with a little effort on your part. br /
br /
Have you been putting it off because you think your dog will never be able to learn a new trick? Dont put it off any longer. Start teaching your dog how to sit today. br /
br /
Use some of these tips to teach your dog to sit:br /
br /
You are going to need some treats; unfortunately this is always the best way to get a dog to do something you want! You can use anything you know your dog enjoys: biscuits, chewy treats or household items.br /
br /
The main goal is to get your dog to sit when you use the word. One way you can gradually get your dog used to the word is by saying the word when the dog is sitting anyway. Dog sits down – you say sit and praise them. br /
br /
You will also need to practice this every day by doing the following:br /
br /
– Call your dog and offer them the treat. Let them sniff the treat and get excited first! br /
br /
– Slowly move the treat until its over the dogs head. The dog will naturally move into the sitting position. br /
br /
– Its important that the dog associates the activity of sitting with the treat, the praise and the action of sitting. Try to get your timing right. br /
br /
– Keep bribing the dog and gradually decrease the size of the treat. Keep enthusiastically praising the dog. br /
br /
– Repeat this exercise a few times a day. Dont overdo it – you want your pet to think of it as fun. br /
br /
– Try to practice around mealtimes when your dog is hungry; this will make him keener for the treats. br /
br /
– Have the treats easily accessible, dont fumble around – the treat needs to happen as the dog is sitting. br /
br /
– Dont push your dog’s bottom down; this wont work because your pet will associate the action of sitting with having you push his bottom to the ground. If this really isnt working you might want to consider obedience classes with other dogs. br /
br /
– End each training session on a positive note.br /
br /
Teaching your dog to sit using these positive reinforcement techniques will strengthen the bond between you. Consider it time well spent. br /
br /
Once you have mastered the basic command sit it should be quite easy to train your dog the other basic commands. Sit-stay, down heel and come are some of the most useful commands. Use the treats in a similar way. Training your dog is an ongoing process. You want to keep praising your dog regularly and never associate anger with the dog’s reaction to your command. br /
br /
Make use of every new situation to train or put your training into practice. The most important part about learning how to sit – is that the dog sits under a variety of conditions. Sitting in new environments, around other dogs, around new people, when the doorbell rings etc. br /
br /
Training your dog well is one of the most important things you can do for your dog. Besides having a well behaved dog you will also have an obedient dog. Dogs function as part of a pack – and you are the leader. Your dog will be better adjusted and happier if they know their place in the pack. Your dog is by nature keen to please you. Be a great pack leader and start teaching your puppy to sit today!br /

Puppy Potty Training »

Potty training is the single most indispensable behavior your pup will have to learn. Logic will have to tell you why. Do you want your house to stay clean? Handle your puppys housebreaking well. Aside from the maintenance of your household hygiene, trained dogs are happy dogs. As creatures of custom, its in their nature to keep schedules as pack animals. Here is how you should housebreak your puppy:br /
br /
The Perfect Age to Beginbr /
br /
When your pup reaches the age of 8 to 12 weeks old, that is the opportune time to introduce the process of a href=http://www.responsibledogtraining.com/potty-training-for-puppies.php target=_blankpotty training puppies/a. Have you ever heard the old saying that an old dog cant learn new tricks? It is mostly unfortunately realistic so why take chances?br /
br /
Crate Trainingbr /
br /
Dog trainers typically suggest using a crate to begin the house training process with your puppy. A crate is like a cage, with open spaced bars and door that locks. Its size ought to be large enough so the the young pet can safely be comfortable inside. It ought to be employed as the bedroom for the animal. It is not proper to confine your puppy in his crate for over two hours at a time.br /
br /
The thinking behind using a crate in a href=http://www.responsibledogtraining.com/house-train-your-puppy.php target=_blankhouse training for puppies/a is that most animals naturally keep their sleeping area clean. Nevertheless, your pet will do so if you leave him someplace for longer than he can hold back the call of nature. Never use the crate as a way impose a penalty on your dog. This tactic will is dangerous. In general, pets older than three months should go potty each 3 hours, so you better walk him to a particular outdoor location regularly.br /
br /
Make Your Puppy Learn Routinesbr /
br /
An excellent suggestion for a href=http://www.responsibledogtraining.com/puppy-litter-training.php target=_blankpuppy litter training/a is to consistently exit your home through one door only. This had better be where you want your dog to call you about his need to go potty.br /
br /
Taking your pup out at around the same times every day are going to be highly profitable for the both of you. This will assist in making a procedure, and will make him learn to hold it in until you become available to take him out.br /
br /
Look for Warning Signalsbr /
br /
Whether or not your un-housebroken dog is allowed to roam freely around the house, watch for signs that he needs to do it. Be consistently observant of the behavior, in other words, sniffing or pawing, circling, or intently staring at the door. Whether or not you catch him while doing it, stop him with a quick grab of his collar and pull it up while saying no using your deep, stern tone (dont forget to utilize a deep, gruff voice when stating commands). Then, take him outside and let him finish what he is doing. Lastly, pat him on his head while saying good (his name)! It must make your dog comfortable with to being praised whenever he does anything that makes you proud. Giving him a treat as a reward when he does his business in the appropriate spot may assist, too.br /
br /
Patience is Necessarybr /
br /
Like any training endeavor, housebreaking requires understanding, awareness, and empathy. Since you will unquestionably detest cleaning your dogs waste off your floors on a regular basis and having your home smell like a public bathroom, you want the housebreaking process to be successful in as soon as possible.br /
br /
Common Sense Is a Necessary Factorbr /
br /
The proper mindset is not to allow your dog water before bedtime if he is to likely to pee often at night time. Creating a process that forces his routine to your will be a huge time saver and reduce the problems associated with of having a new puppy in the house.

House train your dog

Paper training is a specific type of house training for your puppy. The idea is to teach your puppy where in the house is the best place to pee or poo. When paper training your dog, you teach the dog to only go on newspapers, so you can put the paper in the trash after wards.

There are different ways to house train your dog and paper train is one theory.

Crate training is based on the dogs instinct about not soiling the place where a puppy sleeps. It consists of restricting the dogs movement by putting your dog in a small indoor kennel whenever your dog cannot be supervised. Whats the difference between crate training and house training?

Paper training and crate training are entirely different. Crate training is used only to train your dog to go outside, paper training is where you teach your dog to go on newspapers.

[caption id="attachment_1406" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Dog Training Basics"]dog training basics advices paper training crate training puppy potty training[/caption]

Its impossible to train your dog to do both at the same time. You’ll confuse your dog and it will only prolong the training.

Puppy Potty Training: Why Choose Paper Training Instead Of Crate Training

Its said that crate training is the fastest way to house train your dog, but it involves a lot of time and effort to make it work, which isn’t always an option for everybody.

Paper training is best for people who don’t have easy access to a yard, for example, if you live in an apartment, instead of a house. Or if you have a full time job, where you cannot be around all the time.

Crate training is the best for you if you are able to spend a lot of time with your puppy in the first weeks of house training and are available during the day to let her out of the crate for 2-3 hours.

Paper training only works for small male dogs, and small to medium female dogs. Larger dogs produce too much waste for a newspaper.

Pick a spot of the house for your dog to use as a potty spot. Since they are going to be making a mess on the newspaper, its best to find a spot that doesn’t have carpet. Most people use a corner in the kitchen or the laundry room. Then place think amounts of newspaper in the corner of this room. At first, make the newspaper area big, since your dog has no idea that they need to go on the paper. To make sure the dog goes on the paper, be sure to restrict the area where the dog can move around.

After awhile, you can reduce the amount of newspaper you use. Do this gradually, just a couple sheets at a time. It usually takes dogs a couple months before they get use to the paper training method.

If you catch your dog going somewhere else beside the paper, stop the dog by clapping, pick up the dog (be careful when doing so) and put the dog on the paper.

Dog Training »

There are various dog trainer techniques, but its difficult to find which one will work best for you and your pet. Sure! The majority of techniques will work, if done properly, but you need to find one thats comfortable for you.br /
br /
One technique that you may of heard of is Clicker Training. What the heck is Clicker Training? Clicker Training has been around for some time now and began being used to teach marine mammals tricks for performance.br /
br /
So Clicker Training isnt some magical item that makes dogs listen. It isnt a gimmick either. The key to making it succeed is to use the click noise with food. It pretty much works as a bridge between dogs finding out that the click means they did something good and is rewarded for it. Its best described as an event marker and lets the dog know what they did right. Within time, you wont need the clicker for your dog.br /
Dog Training Techniques: The Recall Game br /
I found this one on the internet and found it interesting. It was written by Rebekah Pless. A way to teach your dog to run to you every time you call them is, for starters, is never call your pet unless you can enforce the command. Every time you call your pet and they dont immediately receive a food reward, then they wont come to you. Always give them a treat. Keep treats in your pocket all the time. Every good act deserves a reward.br /
br /
Also never call your pet over for something unpleasant. If you need to groom your dog, dont call them over to you. Go to the dog instead of calling them over.br /
br /
Now what you need to do is get 2 people involved in the training. Have the person point to the person calling them. Have them clap, whistle or call the dog. When the dog comes, they get a reward. Use the dogs name every time you call them, so they will become familiar with their name. You only tell the dog to come when they are coming to you.br /
br /
Once the dog comes to you, hold them by the collar and give them their treat. This prevents them from grabbing the treat and leaving. After they receive the treat, point them to the next person they need to go to and repeat the same process. Not only will the dog learn to come when called, they will also learn to respond to pointing where they need to go too.br /
Dog Training Techniques: Crate Training br /
One last technique that you may of heard of is Crate Training. Providing your dog with an indoor kennel crate can help your dogs need for a type of den enclosure. It works as an excellent housebreaking tool, because it helps the dog from not soiling their sleeping place, plus it will also help reduce separation anxiety in puppies, also prevents chewing shoes and furniture and keeps puppies from getting into hazardous things around the house.br /
br /
Furnish the crate with treats and toys. Make sure the toys are large enough to prevent them from eating them. Also be sure to put water in the crate and bedding. You want your dog to be as comfortable as possible.br /
br /
Place the crate next to you when you are home. This will help the dog feel more comfortable with the crate. Every now and then, put dog treats in the crate. This will make the dog think of the crate as a positive thing.br /
br /
Remember to only put the dogs in the crate for short periods of time in the beginning. Puppies have small bladders and usually need to pee over 12 times a day. If your dog has an accident in the crate, dont punish them.br /

Essential Dog Training Tips Advicebr /
I you have ever trained a dog, you know how much of a struggle it can be. a href=http://af8b3cjj50fuflegoftrfl7ya8.hop.clickbank.net/ target=_blankessential dog training/a can be exciting as well as challenging. Where do I begin? Ill give you a few tips to point you in the right direction.br /
br /
The first thing you must do with your dog is make him/her pay attention to commands. You might want to start by using a single phrase command sit, stay, etc.. Your dog needs to associate this phrase with an action. In the beginning this might be a bit difficult, so try using a dog treat. Hold the treat near the dog and use the phrase. Each time your dog pays attention, reward them. Gradually you will be able to get your dogs attention every time.br /
br /
Dogs can get distracted fairly easy and have a short attention span. Taking this in mind it si best to go somewhere free of distractions such as loud noised, kids, or other pets. You should also limit your dogs training sessions to around 30 min. each time so that your dog will not get restless and loose interest.br /
br /
* You never want to hit or cause pain to your dog. This will only make them shy away from you and become harder to train in the long run.br /
br /
* If your dog looses attention try to change your tone of voice and Im not talking about yessing or screaming. Do not frighten your dog.br /
br /
* Consistency, consistency, consistency. I cant stress this enough. If you are not consistent, your dog will become confused and uncooperative.br /
br /
There are 3 basic commands every properly trained dog should know. These keyword commands are sit, stay, down. This is the core of any dog training and is a great start for any dog to learn.br /
br /
Sit is the simplest of commands. All you must do once your dogs attention is acquired is gently push their backside down while saying sit. Keep consistent and eventually your dog will start catching on.br /
br /
The next command is stay. This is very helpful for people with very rambunctious/ hyper dogs. All you must do to make your dog stay is place a treat on the ground in front of them and once your dog goes for the treat, just use the stay command. Once your dog starts to become obedient you can gradually move the treat further away from the dog every time. They will try to take some steps at times.. This is a way your dog is testing their boundaries with you.br /
br /
The last command is down. Everyone knows when a dog gets excited they can tend to get hyper and start jumping. This is not a good thing, especially if you have a big dog. I have a very simple fix to this. Just use the command down when your dog starts to jump on you. The key is not to pet them or act excited toward them. It might even take putting their front legs down if you have to.br /
br /
There are several other commands come, stand, shake, roll over. The list goes on and on. Just keep in mind that a href=http://c4f6cltg3w91noe-00w-sjqkti.hop.clickbank.net/ target=_blankessential dog training advice/a takes consistency and patience. Once you have mastered this I am sure you and your dog will share a better quality of life.br /
